*Estranged husband attacks wife knife at railway station in Maharashtra 's virar arrested*

 Sharma allegedly slashed the knife at his wife multiple times causing injuries to both her hands, neck and near eyes.

A man allegedly tried to kill his estranged wife by attacking her with a knife at the Virar railway station in Maharashtra on Wednesday morning, said the police.

Shiva Sharma, a Delhi resident aged between 30 and 40, was nabbed by the Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable and handed over to the Vasai Government Railway Police (GRP), who recorded his arrest. They said he attacked his wife Bishila, 27, who was going to work, on the footoverbridge of the south side of the Virar railway station at around around 7.30 am.

Sharma allegedly slashed the knife at his wife multiple times causing injuries to both her hands, neck and near eyes. The woman tried to resist him and, in the attempt, got her fingers cut, said the police. Sharma also tried to strangulate her using her dupatta, but in vain, they added.

Her screams prompted the RPF personnel and locals to rush in and they nabbed Sharma. They rushed Bishila to Sanjivni Hospital, where she was undergoing treatment.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the couple had been living separately for quite some time. Sharma had come to Virar, where Bishila was staying at her mother's place, and asked her to return with him to Delhi. However, Bishila refused to go with him, the police said.

"The woman works somewhere while the accused is unemployed and would ask her for money. He also has some addiction. Due to their personal disputes, the accused attacked his wife," said Inspector Bhagwan Dange of the Vasai GRP.

"The woman is out of danger now. After recording statements of family members and relatives of both sides, the exact cause behind the attack would be established. The investigation is on," Dange added.

A police source said the couple approached the Virar police station on Tuesday to file complaint against each other owing to their dispute. However, no case was registered.
