*Uttar Pradesh: Criminal with Rs 1 Lakh Bought Killed In Police Encounter In Jaunpur,AK- 4 Pistol Recovered*

Uttar Pradesh: Monu Chavanni (35), a notorious criminal with a Rs 1 lakh bounty, was neutralized in a police encounter on Tuesday morning, officials confirmed.

The encounter took place near Shahpur Gaushala of Badalpur in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh. He was a resident of Narai Imilia, Sarayalkhasni in Mau district. His companions however managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness.

Upon receiving intelligence about Chavanni's whereabouts, a joint team of STF, Badalpur police station and SWAT started checking suspicious vehicles and persons in Sarokhanpur of Badalpur on Varanasi-Lucknow National Highway. During this, a speeding Bolero was signaled to stop. The criminals inside started firing at the police team after which the police team chased them.

The criminals turned the Bolero towards Dugoli Khurd from the Peeli river bridge in Shahpur, which is about four kilometers away. The Bolero got stuck in the mud near the Gaushala in Shahpur. On being surrounded, the criminals got down from the Bolero and started firing at the police team and tried to run away. In the retaliatory fire, one criminal fell down after being shot in the head. His companions managed to escape. The police found an AK-47 rifle, a nine mm pistol, shells and cartridges on the spot.

The police took the injured miscreant to the district hospital, where doctors declared him dead. After identification, the police are collecting the criminal history of the notorious Sumit Kumar Singh alias Monu Chavanni.
