We were nervous. We were asked to keep our heads down.
We didn't even know we were in Kandahar. People were having panic attacks," Kataria said, recalling the traumatic moments.She said that one of the terrorists named 'Burger', who was seemingly 'friendly', asked passengers to play 'Antakshari'," Kataria recalled, according to ANI.The flight, carrying 176 passengers was hijacked by five Pakistan based terrorists from Nepal airport to Kandahar in Afghanistan. The ordeal lasted for seven excruciating days, during which one hostage was killed and another brutally injured.The hijackers demanded the release of three high-profile terrorists: Masood Azhar, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, and Mushtaq Ahmed Zargar.The 1999 hijacking is back in news after the recent web series on Netflix - IC 814 - was released on August 29. A section of viewers have said that distortion of real identities of hijackers amounted to misrepresentation of historical events.The Centre also expressed strong disapproval of the depiction of certain elements in the web series after which the series has been updated to include the real names and code names of the hijackers. The real names of the hijackers were Ibrahim Athar, Shahid Akhtar Sayed, Sunny, Ahmad Qazi, Zahoor Mistry and Shakir.
