 Nearly a year after he went absconding after sexually exploiting and blackmailing a woman between June 2022 and July 2023, the 25-year-old culprit finally landed into the custody of the crime branch unit (Zone II) attached to the Mira Bhayandar-Vasai Virar (MBVV) police on Saturday. The accused Atul Jaiprakash Yadav was arrested from Sion East. In her complaint registered at the Naigaon police station in Vasai on July, 14, 2023, the woman stated that the accused under the pretext of meeting her friend took her to SP Hotel where he spiked her juice with some sedatives. The accused not only raped her but also shot obscene videos. He later blackmailed her by threatening to circulate the video on social media platforms and took her to various hotels where he sexually exploited her on multiple occasions for over a year.

 Amendments to Mobile Number Portability (MNP) regulations, aimed at curbing SIM swap and replacement fraud, will come into effect from July 1, according to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The TRAI announced on March 14, 2024, that the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability (Ninth Amendment) Regulations, 2024, will be enforced starting July 1, 2024. TRAI defines SIM swap or replacement as the process by which an existing subscriber acquires a new SIM card to replace a lost or non-working one. The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) facility allows users to retain their mobile numbers when switching from one access provider to another within the country. To continually improve the MNP process, the Telecommunication Mobile Number Portability Regulations, 2009 have been amended eight times previously.   Jammu,June 30   Days after a terror attack on a bus in which nine pilgrims were killed in Reasi district, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday raided several locations in the neighboring Rajouri. The NIA searched multiple locations in Rajouri district in connection with the Reasi terrorist attack, an official statement read. Terrorists had opened fire at a bus carrying pilgrims who were returning from Shiv Khori to Katra on the evening of June 9 in Pouni area of Reasi district, causing the bus to fall into a nearby gorge, killing nine people, including a child. NIA, which took over the investigation on June 15 on orders from the Ministry of Home Affairs searched five locations linked with hybrid terrorists and Overground Workers (OGWs). The locations were pointed out by an arrested OGW, Hakam Khan alias Hakin din. Hakam had provided them with safe shelter, logistics and food, as per NIA investigations. However, the local residents have expressed displeasure and alleged that the action was just an eye wash, while the unauthorised 'Gurudwara' is still encroaching on the park. On Thursday, the Crime Intelligence Unit (CIU) arrested 30-year-old Vipin Dogra, a lieutenant in the Indian Navy`s Western Command, for aiding the trafficking gang. Dogra faces charges under the IPC for cheating, forgery, breach of trust, and criminal conspiracy (Section 120B). He was produced before the 37th Metropolitan Magistrate Court and remanded to police custody. Officials revealed that the CIU received a tip-off about individuals applying for South Korean visas using forged documents. "The arrest was made based on the information and verification. We have found a clear role of the accused in assisting the gang to secure visas,” said Datta Nalwade, DCP, Detection. The police have also booked 10 others for performing the 16-year-old girl's marriage in contravention of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. Police sources said that the girl from the Karkari community, who lived in Moranda village of Mokhada taluka, had an affair with 21-year-old Jayesh Ramdas Misal, a resident of Nehale in Jawhar Taluka, for around two years. She became pregnant during this time and her family arranged her marriage with the boy, which was solemnised on March 29 this year.  The Enforcement Directorate has raided various locations in Mumbai in connection with the ongoing investigation into the investment fraud case against businessman Amber Dalal, who is accused of cheating 1,300 investors out of over Rs 600 crore. The raids, conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), took place on June 21 and resulted in the seizure of movable assets, including cash, frozen bank funds, and Demat account holdings totalling Rs 37 crore. Various documents and digital devices were also found during the searches, officials said. The Enforcement Directorate initiated the investigation based on an FIR filed by the Mumbai Police. It revealed that Dalal, proprietor of Ritz Consultancy Service, allegedly took money from investors through a suspected Ponzi scheme by promising high returns.
